What does the PTA do?
The PTA provides programming, funding and support to Clinton Elementary. We provide staff and student supports, social and community engagement activities and fundraise to ensure these activities are accessible for all in our school community.
How does the PTA raise money?
The PTA raises funds through a diversified revenue stream from our school community. In 2023, we raised funds in six main ways- Read-A-Thon, Plant Sale, No Fuss Fundraiser, Spirit Wear Sales, Community Partnerships and all other sources.
We are a school with more parent financial resources in the CCS district, shouldn't we share our resources with other schools that need it?
PTA funds are intended to support the school and community where the PTA operates. Donating money to another school is not consistent with these National PTA bylaws. Also, almost all other Columbus City Schools receive Title 1 funding while Clinton does not qualify. Title I is federal funding that helps ensure that all students have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. Schools with Title 1 funding have much more flexibility and discretion over spending these funds for things that our PTA provides. Clinton is one of the lowest funded schools in the district and the PTA's funding is essential to providing all co-curricular and extra-curricular activities at Clinton Elementary. The district pays for teacher and staff salaries and benefits, utilities, very basic maintenance of the building and very limited supplies. The PTA funds essentially all other supplies, materials and activities at Clinton.
What does a typical meeting look like and how long does it last?
60 minutes. Each meeting updates on current events, volunteer needs, seeks teacher and parent input on decisions, and has a principal report. Agendas each month are made available the Monday before the meeting.
The first meeting has great participation, do you really need more parents at meetings?
Yes! We need more commitment over the whole year to represent each grade level + more folks make light work to avoid burnout. It's also a great way to meet new parents and families and get involved in the school community!
Wait, did you say free childcare at meetings?
Yes, and PTA kids love free play in the gym and seeing friends while former Clinton teens babysit!
How do I volunteer to help with PTA?
All are welcome to join a committee or a team of the PTA. The three main areas are Fundraising, Programs and Social/Community Events. There are small one-off roles & larger strategic roles. We need YOU!
How do you join the PTA? Do I need to join once or every year?
Join online to be a voting member and to support the organization for $6 each year at clinton.givebacks.com. Membership is NOT required to volunteer, but memberships are one revenue stream that supports our work. Members have the right to vote on PTA matters at meetings.
Why are people seconding motions?
Robert's Rules of Order is a guide for conducting meetings. It helps ensure that everyone has a voice, meetings run smoothly, & decisions are made fairly. Simply put, members make motions to suggest actions, & another member seconds the motion before it's discussed and voted on.
